How many of those volumes are LOTR? I've noticed with my wife's Japanese Bible that a simple English sentence is often translated into a Japanese one three times as long.
When I go to Osaka I'm always drawn to Japanese bookshops, but then feel completely thwarted because I can't read Japanese :(
I did find a great series of magazines on samurai, however, that had great illustrations.
